Nationality: British
Grade: Business Analyst
Office: London
Academic background: BA Hons Politics, Philosophy
and Economics, University of Oxford
I joined after reading PPE at Oxford. I'd already done an
internship at a large professional services firm and I knew
that I wanted somewhere smaller and more personal, without
so much bureaucracy, and Spectrum Value Partners really appealed
because of its telecoms and media focus - a chance to be involved
in a whole range of a really fast-moving and constantly changing
industries!
Spectrum Value Partners has definitely delivered in terms
of interesting and exciting projects in a whole variety of
locations - I've has the chance to work for major broadcasters
and new online start-ups, as well as banks and private equity
houses, and do projects in Spain, Turkey and Greece (with
some sightseeing on the side!). Some of the most interesting
have been modelling the potential of Endemol's digital business
(how much money can you make from Big Brother on your mobile?),
and looking at how to improve the structural relationship
between Ofcom and another telecoms regulator - which involved
an understanding of how convergence was changing problems
in the industry, as well as of the political and legal situation.
There's also a real thrill in seeing recommendations you've
argued for put into practice!
At a personal level, Spectrum Value Partners is also an incredible
opportunity to gain skills and real expertise on fascinating
businesses - people are always willing to put time aside to
show you anything from how best to model a complex industry
to explaining what's going on in publishing. There's a really
friendly, approachable atmosphere that means you're given
significant responsibility, but never left stuck on your own
with a problem.
